Betty Jane (Heaton) CyphersSeptember 15, 1929 ~ November 1, 2017 (age 88)
Betty Jane Cyphers, age 88, of Elwood, went to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital following an extended illness. She was born on September 15, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan. Betty and her sister, Carolyn were the daughters of the late Arthur and Rena (Keough) Heaton. Betty grew up in Elwood and graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School in 1948. On May 31, 1952, she married the love of her life, Loren "Cy" Cyphers, Jr. Betty and Cy were blessed with 3 children, Jackie and twins Brad and Brock.
In 1966, Betty started her own daycare business and took care of many local children for 16 years. She was a member of East Main St. Christian Church . Betty enjoyed working in her yard, especially with her flowers, and keeping her home and yard nice. More than anything, Betty loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed holiday get-togethers. Betty will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Jackie (Dennis) Hughes of Elwood, twin sons, Brad Cyphers of Miami County, IN, and Brock (Linda) Cyphers of Miami County, IN, 6 grandchildren, Jarod Hughes, Katie Renee Hughes (deceased), Colin Cyphers, Kylee Cyphers, Emilee Cyphers, and Wesley Cyphers, 3 great-grandchildren, Aiden Hughes, Scarlett Hughes, and Elijah Hughes, sister, Carolyn M. Heaton-Miller, cousin, Garth "Boy" Day, and special friend, Marilyn Kessler.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Arthur J. Heaton, mother, Rena B. (Keough) Heaton, husband of 46 years, Loren "Cy" Cyphers, and granddaughter, Katie Renee Hughes.
A funeral service celebrating Betty's life will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, November 6, 2017 at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood, with Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, November 6, 2017, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital Foundation or Community Parkview Health and Living.
The family would like to thank the ladies who took care of Betty in her home for 2 years, the staff at Parkview Health and Living, and the staff at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital for the loving care they provided Betty.
