Carl T. York

April 2, 1931 ~ March 5, 2018 (age 86)

Carl  T. York, age 86, of Elwood, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on April 2, 1931, in Bath County, KY to the late Carl and Katherine "Kate" (Vice) York.
On January 20, 1948, Carl married his first wife, Louise Toy, in Owingsville, Kentucky.  The shared more than 60 years together, before she passed away on October 23, 2008.
Carl  retired in 1982 from the Fisher Body division of General Motors in Marion and he owned the Silver Dollar Tavern in Elwood for many years.  He also formerly worked at Simmers Trailer Factory in Elwood and later in life at Wal-Mart in Noblesville where he formed many friendships.  
In November 2009 he began spending time with Diane (Weston) Miller.  In honor of Diane's mother, June Weston, Carl and Diane were married on June 30, 2016 which was June's birthday.
He was a member of  the Central Wesleyan Church, a lifetime memberof the Elwood Lion's Club and the Elwood Conservation Club.  Years ago, Carl enjoyed raising horses. Carl was a proud fan of the Indiana Pacers and the Chicago Cubs.  He loved spending time at the lakes, finally settling at Silver Lake after his retirement.  Carl cherished the time he had to garden and be on the pond with his grandchildren, riding his bicycle built for two, and trying new restaurants.  More than anything, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will be truly loved and missed by all who knew him.
Carl  is survived by his loving wife, Diane York of Elwood, 5 children, Linda (Dave) Heflin, Ewell (Donna)York,  Roger (Dianna) York, Carole (Jack) Giselbach, Dewayne (Raetta) York, step daughter, Amy (Paul) Hobbs whom he treated as a daughter, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Special friends from Walmart, Shelly & Brad Wilson and family and Marty & Marie Matthew, and special friends Bill Rumler and Roy Chafin.
Carl  was preceded in death by his father, Carl York, mother, Katherine "Kate" York, first wife, Louise York, son, Doug York , 2 brothers, Charles  York and  Travis York, 2 sisters, Dixie Horseman and Norma Quesinberry.  Carl enjoyed spending time with (Mommy Dearest) June Weston before she passed away.

A funeral service celebrating Carl's life will be at  1:00 pm on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood  with  Rev. Ben Chapshaw and Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at the Elwood City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Dunnichay Funeral Home.
