Charles W. "Bill" Garman, age 91, of Tipton, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Indiana Veteran's Home in Lafayette following an extended illness.
He was born on June 19, 1926 in Elwood, to the late Charles and Leah (Click) Garman.
On March 29, 1947 he married Gwen (Simmons) Garman and they shared more than 70 years of married life together.
After graduating from high school, Charles served his county during WWII in the United States Army. He was a farmer all of his life. and drove a school bus for Tipton schools for more than 32 years. He worked as a painter for many years. Charles was a member of the Tipton American Legion, the National Rifle Association, the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite, and was a former member of Hobbs Methodist Church . He enjoyed working in his yard, taking care of his flowers and his garden.
Charles is survived by his wife, of more than 70 years, Gwen (Simmons) Garman of Tipton, 2 sons, Steve (Joyce) Garman of Lebanon and Larry (Theresa) Garman of Tipton, brother, Jack (Phyllis) Garman of Elwood, 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Patterson of Florida.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Leah Garman and sister Marilyn Patterson.
Private graveside services were held at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.
Arrangements were entrusted to Dunnichay Funeral Home.
