Charles A. "Chuck" Leakey, age 90, life long resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at his residence. Charles was born on November 5, 1927, in Elwood the son of Richard and Mabel (Hall) Leakey. Chuck graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School in 1947. On July 3, 1951 he married the love of his life Elizabeth (McClish) Leakey and she passed away on Jan. 19, 1979.
Chuck retired from Paint & Assembly Corp. of Elwood and was formerly employed as a mechanic at Heiser Ford and also worked for many years at Seeger's Automotive of Elwood. He was an avid race fan he and his wife Elizabeth enjoyed going to the Indianapolis 500 and Anderson Speedway. He loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.
Chuck is survived by two daughters; Cathy (Kim) Harmon of Elwood, IN, and Kelly (David) Herrick of Fort Wayne, IN, granddaughter; Chelsea Harmon, two grandsons; Nicholas Herrick and Mason Herrick, several nieces & nephews, beloved dog, Charles Henry Harmon and beloved cat, Blackie.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father; Richard Leakey, mother; Mabel Leakey, wife; Elizabeth Leakey brother; Robert Leakey, sisters; Carolyn Jarvis, Shirley Britton, Mary Bartlett, Doris Fred, Helen Snyder.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Elwood Cemetery with Pastor Scott Blaylock officiating. Local arrangements have been entrusted with Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, IN.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the John H. Hinds Career Center "Automotive Program" through the funeral home or directly to the school.
