Doris Marie Hobbs, age 89, of Elwood passed away at her residence on April 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family after an extended illness.
Doris was born in Frankton, IN on October 2, 1929 to the late Ralph and Dalice (Foust) Etchison.
She attended Frankton High School and graduated in 1947.
Doris married Richard "Dick" Hobbs on June 10, 1951. They shared 55 years of marriage together, and were blessed with 5 children.
Dick preceded her in death on August 19, 2006.
She worked at Delco Remy, Ex-Cello Corporation and as a legal secretary for Ann Hailey. She loved being a wife, mother, and was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Doris enjoyed attending church and was a faithful member of East Main Street Christian Church. She was a former member of the Elwood Country Club where she was an avid golfer. Doris also enjoyed gardening, traveling, and was an accomplished seamstress and baker.
Doris is survived by 3 daughters, Julie Hobbs-Garner (husband Bob-deceased)
of Elwood, Susan (husband Mike) Hobbs-Rodriguez of Elwood, and Sara (husband Jim) Hobbs-Smith of Fort Wayne IN., 2 sons, Carl R Hobbs (deceased), Ben (wife Julie Moore) Hobbs of Greenfield, IN. Grandchildren, Gabe (Jennie) Garner, Marni (Matt) John, Erica (Troy) Powell, Cale (Niki) Sizelove, Brooke Rodriguez, Megan Rodriguez, Brittney Rodriguez, Lori Krouse, Lisa (Robbie) Shock, Curt (Jayme) Jenkins, Kyle Jenkins, James (Kendra Rorick) Smith, Amanda Smith, Michael Smith, Leslie Hobbs, Angie Hobbs, Cory (Jessica) Hobbs, Tanner Hobbs, Hillary (Marty) Blake, Kelly (Charlie) Kolb, and Kara (Tom) Prince. Great-Grandchildren, Megan & Katlyn Garner, Hayden, Elli & Hannah Ferguson, Gracie, Emily & Eddie John, Shay, Karsyn, & Kase Powell, Nicholas, Nolan & Nash Sizelove, Levi & Lorelai Rodriguez, Dylan Pinder, Kade & Halle Krouse, Jack, Kennedy & Olivia Shock, Vincent & Theia Smith , Jada Saroka, Hadrian Hughes, Nora Hobbs, and a brother for Nora expected in 2019, Mikaila & Maci Blake, Caleb & Carly Garcia, Anna, Mia & Molly Bucksot, Max Prince, and one Great-Great Granddaughter, Heidi Wisenberg. Brother-in-law, Dallas Hobbs, and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son
Carl, sister, Wanita Paddock and sister, Ruby Hays.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 pm. and the Funeral service celebrating Doris' life will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019, 11:00 am with visitation one hour before the service at the Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, IN, with Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to
East Main Street Christian Church, to Martha’s Ministries.
