George R. Blackford, age 78,life long resident of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton.
George was born on June 26, 1940, in Elwood to Roy and Eva (Anderson) Blackford, Sr.. He served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1964. George retired in 1999, from General Tire Corp. of Marion after several years. George enjoyed the outdoors. He like to sit on his front porch and liked to watch old western movies.
George is survived by two sisters, Freda (James) Georgel of Rome City, IN and Diann (Max) Homler of Anderson, brother, Mike (Dianne) Blackford, Sr. of Elwood, brother in law, Merrill Taylor, sisters-in-law, Judy Blackford, Edna Blackford, and Vicki Blackford, several nieces & nephews, special friends, Lauren Clark and her daughter, Emersyn, Jim & Jennifer Savage, Rachel Clark and her children Sebastian & Sophia, Greyson & Delaney Savage, Terry & Vera Morris and Steve & Diane Corbett.
George was preceded in death by his father, Roy K. Blackford, Sr., mother, Eva Blackford, sisters, Lela Taylor and Norma Graham, brothers, Roy K. Blackford, Jr., Ted Blackford, Don Blackford, Billy Joe Blackford, Jim Blackford, and Ed Blackford.
Funeral service celebrating George's life will be at 1:00 pm Friday, March 15, 2019 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with Pastor Jeff Haill officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the U.S. Army and the Elwood V.F.W. American Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Friday, March 15, 2019, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.
