Gwendolyn "Gwen" Garmon, age 90, of Tipton, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Miller's Merry Manor Tipton.
Gwen was born on April 26, 1929, in Elwood the daughter of Orland & Alberta (Blake) Simmons.
On March 27, 1947 she married Charles W. "Bill" Garman and he passed away on Oct. 15, 2017.
Gwen graduated from Elwood High School in 1946, Ball State in 1962 and earned her masters in 1966. Gwen retired in 1989, from the Tipton Community School Corp. after teaching for 28 years in the elementary school. She was a member of East Main St. Christian Church in Elwood and the West Street Christian Church of Tipton where she sang in both choirs. She had worked for Logan & Graham Accountants and volunteered at the Tipton Hospital in the gift shop. She was past Matron of Eastern Star #17, member of I.S.T.A., Red Hats Society and Sigma Delta Phi Sorority. Gwen loved being with her family and playing cards.
Gwen is survived by her son, Larry (Theresa) Garman of Tipton, daughter in law, Joyce Garman of Lebanon, 6 grandchildren, R.Jay (Shawna) Garman, Kacy (Matt) Hahn, Melanie (Mike) Weaver, Maribeth (David) Leeson, Jeffrey (Amanda) Garman and Bryce (Kent Anderson) Garman, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Gwen was preceded in death by her father, Orland E Simmons, mother, Alberta Meyer, husband, Charles W. "Bill" Garman, son, Steven Garman, brothers, Rodney Simmons and Jay Simmons.
Funeral service celebrating Gwen's life will be at 2:00 pm Monday, November 4, 2019 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood with Pastor Linda McKiernan-Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 3, 2019, from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, and on Monday one hour prior to the service at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the West Street Christian Church or St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church building fund.
