Ira Wilson Sherman

April 15, 1928 ~ February 22, 2018 (age 89)

Ira Wilson Sherman, age 89, of Elwood, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Westminster Village North in Indianapolis.
He was born on April 15, 1928 in Battle Creek, Michigan, to the late Wilson Sherman and Viola (Pennock) Bangle.
On January 2, 1948 he married  Joan (Clabaugh) Sherman and they shared more than 69 years of marriage before her death in 2017.
Ira retired from American Electric Power where he worked for many years as Electrical Engineer.  He was a member of East Main St. Christian Church where he was an Elder Emeritis, the Madison County RC Flyers Club, the Elwood 50 Plus Club,and he was formerly a member of numerous motorcycle clubs.  He enjoyed building models (Boats and RC Flyers),  painting, and photography.   He restored antique motorcycles including  the Indiana State Police Motor Cycle in the State Police Museum.    
Ira is survived by 3 sons, David Lee (Nancy) Sherman of Union Hall, VA, Terry (Sue) Sherman of Elwood, and Steve (Sherri) Sherman of Greenfield, Daughter-In-Law, Mary Sherman of Milwaukee, WI, 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jim) Riggs, Brian (Theresa ) Sherman, Margo (Andrew) Multerer,  John (Christa) Sherman,  Greg Sherman, Lori Sherman,  Justin (Gloria) Sherman, 5 great-granddaughters, and 1 great-grandson, sister, Isabelle Reynolds, 2 brothers, Mack Allen Sherman and Mack Ward (Sherry) Sherman, and several nieces and nephews.
Ira was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Mack Sherman, mother, Viola R. Bangle, wife, Joan Sherman on who died July 26, 2017, son, Robert  Sherman, daughter-In-Law, Karen Sherman, and sister, Viola Jane Auler.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana with Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, February 26, 2018, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Association through the funeral home.
