James N. Spaulding , age 82, of Elwood, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 15, 2019 at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital.
He was born in Muncie on October 3, 1937, to the late Vaughn and Helen (McMullin) Spaulding. He was a l member of the First Baptist Church in Alexandria. Jim enjoyed reading and was an avid I.U. Basketball fan. Through the years Jim helped run several grocery stores in the area, and he always enjoyed running the stores. On September 11, 1981 he married June (Kleyla) Spaulding, and they shared over 38 years of marriage together. Jim had a special love for his dogs, Moe and Rascal. More than anything Jim had a tremendous love for his family and will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, June Spaulding of Elwood; son, Doug (wife Barb) Spaulding of Logansport; step-sons, Shad Briles of Fort Wayne, and Jason (wife Erica) Briles of Kokomo; sister, Mary Campbell of Muncie, in-laws , Vickie Blackford, John (wife Jane) Kleyla, and Bob Pool;daughter-in-law, Valerie Spaulding of Kouts, grandchildren, Debbie Spaulding, Cari Jo Spaulding, Eric Spaulding, Karli Briles, Kaitlyn Briles, Kirsten Briles, Gavin Briles, Muriel Briles, Justin Kline, and Jeffery Grismore, great-granddaughter, Lilly Spaulding, close friends, Kay Lytle, Carol & Gail Kelly, and Bud Bergdoll; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brad Spaulding; brothers, Joe Spaulding, and Bill Spaulding; grandson, Bobby Spaulding, in-laws, Kent Kleyla, Ricky Kleyla, Marilyn Pool, Cheryl Kleyla, and Jim Blackford.
A funeral service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana with Pastor Michael Deutsch officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 19, 2019, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home.
