Jeanette Irene (Painter) McGill, age 90, formerly of Elwood, IN, Mesa, AZ, and returned in 2015 to live in Fishers, IN passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 from a brief illness. Jeanette was born in Alexandria, IN on July 7, 1927, the daughter of George and Alice (Faulknor) Painter. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1945. On Oct. 15, 1946 she married the love of her life Robert E. McGill and they shared 47 years of marriage until he passed away on Mar. 4, 1993.
Jeanette was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority where she served as President of chapters in Elwood and Mesa, AZ. She was also a member of the American Legion and Eastern Star.
In life, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and a kind and caring friend to so many. Because of her tender heart, she attracted friends who were drawn to her loving nature. She had a love of travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips with her husband and later with special friends Barbara #1 and Barbara #2. She will be sadly missed but is now in her Heavenly home and at peace. The family wishes to thank the wonderful friends and management of Northridge Gracious Retirement Living in Fishers, IN.
Her family legacy includes: Julia (McGill) Huffman, devoted daughter and son in law Howard, granddaughter whom she loved with all her heart, Natalie (Tarrik) Wilson, great grandsons of whom she was so very proud: Isaac Michael, Ian Matthew, and Graham McGill Wilson, sister: Thelma Mays, sister in law: Joann Frazee, several nieces & nephews, and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Ruth Mittendorf, Catherine Mohler and Mary Cholak, special nephew: Ralph Mittendorf Jr.
brothers: Paul, Harold and Howard Painter, brother in law: William McGill, mother and father in law: Ruby and Wilber McGill.
Funeral services celebrating Jeanette's life will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at 1 pm at the Dunnichay Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the Elwood Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or American Heart Association.
