Leslie Allen "Les" Hoover, age 68, of Elwood, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following an extended illness. Les was born on March 31, 1949 in Elwood to the late Samuel and Mary (Durr) Hoover.
On September 4, 1971 he married the love of his life Betty (Jesse) Hoover.
Les was a veteran, and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1967 through 1971.
Les retired in 2012 from ELSA Corporation, where he worked as a fork truck driver after 22 years of devoted service He was a member of Harmony Christian Church. Les enjoyed spending his time camping, riding snowmobiles, being outdoors and farming with the Waymires. He also enjoyed competing in horse shows. His favorite time was Papa time.
Les is survived by his loving wife, of 46 years, Betty (Jesse) Hoover of Elwood, IN, son; Chuck (Erin) Hoover of Thorntown, IN, daughter; Annie (Randy) Duncan of Elwood, IN, daughter; Jenny (Jasen) Neff of Daleville, IN, son; David (Ingrid Laine) Flanagan of Virginia Beach, VA, mother in law; Lillie Jesse of Elwood, IN, son in law; Kevin McPhearson of Elwood, IN, grandchildren; Adam & Austin Hoover, Jake Jones, Cody (Shelby) Tatman, Chase, Sarah & Katie Duncan, Sydney & Zachary Neff, Alan, Taylor & Andrew McPhearson, Ella & Soren Flanagan. Great-grandchildren; Maci, Gracelyn & Dustin Tatman, brother; Sam Hoover of Tipton, IN, brother; Kerry Hoover of Elwood, IN, brother; Tony (Leigh Ann) Hoover of Tipton, IN, sister; Joyce Sullivan of Elwood, IN, sister; Marie (George) McPhearson of Elwood, IN. Several nieces & nephews.
Les was preceded in death by his father; Samuel J. Hoover, mother; Mary Jane Hoover, daughter; Lisa McPhearson, grandson, Jacob McPhearson, brother; Darryl Hoover, sister in law; Tiny Hoover, brother in law; Terry Sullivan and father in law; Loyd Jesse.
Funeral services celebrating Les will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, IN. with Pastor Ron Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Forrestville Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Elwood V.F.W. Color Guard and the Marine Corp. honor guard.
Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, January 23, 2018, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
