Mildred "Millie" VanBuskirk, age 82, of Elwood, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Elwood Health and Living.
Millie was born on September 24, 1937, in Scottsville, Ky to the late Vernon and Effie (Spears) Carter.
On June 6, 1958, she married the love of her life Maurice C. VanBuskirk and he passed away on March 9, 1996.
Millie retired from the Elwood Community School's in the food service where she worked in the kitchen at Oakland Elementary. She was an active member of Life Church and a member of the Indiana Beta XI Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Millie was always on the go, she enjoyed attending her grandkids sporting events, and taking family trips. She loved traveling with her husband and on their trips collected bells and thimbles. People were always saying how sweet and kind Millie was. She was known for helping others in her quiet way.
Millie is survived by her children Rodney (Cheryl) VanBuskirk of Elwood, Joni (Chuck) Leavitt of Lebanon, and Lori (Shaun) Stephens of Alexandria, grandchildren, Cody (Rebecca) VanBuskirk, Corey (fiance Miranda Green) VanBuskirk, Caley VanBuskirk, Ryland (Kelly) Leavitt, Ashleigh (fiance Daniel Woodard) Leavitt, Carli Leavitt, Tiffany (Travis) Foor, and Tenasha Stephens, great grandchildren, Paisleigh Woodard, Rileigh Woodard, Theo Foor and Amelia Leavitt.
Millie was preceded in death by her Father, Vernon Carter, Mother, Effie Carter, Husband, Maurice C. VanBuskirk.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Life Church , Elwood, Indiana with Pastor Scott Blaylock officiating. The service will begin with a memorial service from members of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 14, 2019, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Life Church , 800 South 22nd Street, Elwood, Indiana.
