Virginia L. Courtney, age 86, of Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Community Hospital following an extended illness.
Virginia was born on January 12, 1932, in Straughn, IN the daughter of Harold and Hazel (Moon) Riggle.
On October 16, 1954 she married the love of her life William B. Courtney who passed away on May 9, 1977.
She was a member of Windfall Apostolic Pentecostal Church where she was a greeter for many years. She loved her family and took pride in caring for her family. Virginia worked for a while at Delco Remy in Anderson before going to work with her husband in their Body shop for several years. Later she helped her sons in the "Courtney Body Shop." She loved animals, horses, chickens, dogs, farm animals. She enjoyed gardening, collecting dolls and tea pots. She took care of her siblings after her mother passed away. She always made meals for the family. Virginia loved reading her Bible and she instilled faith in all of her children.
Virginia is survived by four daughters; Debra (Larry) Heater of Anderson, Jan McLain of Alexandria, Lavonna (Darren) Coppock of Morgantown, and Sheila (Bart) Malicoat of Alexandria, six sons; Rick (Debbie) Courtney of Breeding, KY, Jerry (Trudi) Courtney of Pendleton, Benton (Lisa) Courtney of Breeding, KY, Bill (Tami) Courtney of Muncie, Donald "Dude" (Leslie) Courtney of Anderson, and Tommy (Frances "DeeDee") Courtney of Somerset, KY, numerous grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; Wyatt and Reid, two step daughters; Judith (Russ) Warner of Colmesneil, TX and Nancy Courtney of Fishers, step son; Russell (Rita) Courtney of Greenwood, brother, Dale (friend Marlene Moore) Riggle of New Castle, two sisters; Phyliss (Jack) McCubbins of New Castle and Janet (Jim) Hughes of New Castle, sister-in-law; Liz Riggle of New Lisbon several nieces & nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her Father, Harold Riggle, Mother, Hazel Riggle, Husband, William B. Courtney, Brother, Gerald Riggle, step-son, William Courtney.
Funeral service celebrating Virginia's life will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana with Pastor Tim Cooper and Pastor Michael Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.
