Janet E. "Dot" Carey Obituary (1937 - 2025)

Janet E. "Dot" Carey, age 87, of Anderson, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Edgewater Woods Nursing Home. Born in Elwood, Indiana, on January 14, 1937, she was the cherished daughter of the late Francis Marion Singer and Mary (Jones) Singer. Janet retired from the Thunderbird Bar & Grill, where she worked in food service. A devoted mother and grandmother, Janet's life revolved around her family. She took immense pride in raising her children and doting on her grandchildren, embracing her role as the heart of the family with unconditional love. An exceptional cook, Janet delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones and was especially known for her Christmas baking, creating treats that brought joy to family and friends. She loved playing cards, dice, and games with her grandchildren and could always be found listening to the sounds of classic country music, particularly Patsy Cline and Conway Twitty. In her younger years, Janet enjoyed traveling and had many adventures. She also cherished the simple joys of life, like gathering with her family, celebrating holidays, and sharing laughter and stories. Janet is survived by her children, Darlene Davis, Timothy Lewis, Frances Montano, Rebecca Singer, and Lucinda Lewis; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Diane Lewis, Jack Edward Lewis, Max Gordon Lewis, Kurt Lewis, Harry Ben Lewis, and Russell Lewis; her brothers, Francis Marion Singer Jr., Bob Singer, William Singer, Wesley Singer, and James Singer; great-great grandchild Prince Michael Alcantar and her companion, Richard Hook. A funeral service to honor Janet's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana, with Pastor Nate Warren officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. The family encourages everyone to wear yellow to the services in honor of Janet's love of the color.
