Darlene A. Summers, age 80, of Frankton and formerly of Elwood passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Wellbrooke of Westfield.
She was born in Elwood on June 20, 1941, the daughter of William R. Rodgers and Bess A. (Jones) Strong. On July 22, 1960 Darlene married Lawrence J. "Poncho" Summers and he passed away on October 15, 2006.
Darlene was in the dental profession for over 47 years. She was employed by both Dr. Scircles, Dr. Sam Laudeman and she finished her career with Dr. Dennis Church. She was known for her pleasant smile as she greeted the patients for over 25 years as Dr. Church's dental assistant. Darlene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood, and the Sigma Phi Gama Sorority. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, listening to Elvis, and more than anything, loved spending time with her family. Darlene's smile will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Julie Summers; daughter-in-law, Lisa Summers; three grandsons, Larry (Amber) Summers, Zach (wife Amanda) Summers, and Zane (Ashleigh) Summers; great-granddaughter, Ramona Summers; sister, Barbara (husband Steve) McAdams; brother, Rob (wife Deborah) Rodgers; close friend, Angel Huntsman; and several nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, and husband Darlene was preceded in death by her son, Mike Summers; and a brother, Bill Rodgers.
Family and friends are invited to call from 12 pm to 2 pm on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood chapel.
A funeral service to honor Darlene's life will be held at 2 pm on Monday at Dunnichay Funeral Home with Chaplain Josh Schreiner officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood.
Donations in Darlene's honor may be given to the Heart of Hoosier Land Humane Society through Dunnichay Funeral Home.
