David O. Deckard, age 82, of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood following an extended illness. He was born in Elwood on August 19, 1939, the son of John and Ruth (Vest) Deckard. He married Jorja (Wilhoit) Deckard on December 31, 1966, and they shared 55 years of marriage together.
David proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Chrysler Corp. after 44 years of service. David was a faithful member of Life Church of Elwood , American Legion and the Elwood VFW. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and always looked forward to the annual guys fishing trip at Dale Hollow Lake. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. More than anything, David loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and he will be deeply missed by all of them.
David is survived by his wife, Jorja Deckard of Elwood; two daughters, Tina (Brian) Knotts and Terri (Jacob) Winn both of Elwood; grandchildren, Sheena (Jeff) Sherrill, Sharee Knotts & (Jeff Bornes), David Deckard, John Deckard & (Mariah Galvin), Brianna (Brandon) Leisure, Andrew Winn, Samantha Madore, Christopher (Sonni) Deckard and Tiffany Deckard; great grandchildren, Lola Shay Sherrill, Dean Ollie Sherrill, Nora Quinn Sherrill, Carolyne Deckard, Ryland Leisure, Brenden Williamson, Miah Deckard, Kendrick Williamson, Kaydence Deckard, Jensen Deckard, Ryleigh Deckard, Adam Deckard, Devon Sawyer, Kallen Winn and Oaklei Winn; and several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents; sons, David Ollie Deckard, Jr. and Mark Anthony Deckard; grandchildren, Thomas Deckard and Mahogany Madore; three brothers, John, Cecil and Brady Deckard; and sister, Lola Mae Bragg.

Visitation will be Friday, September 17, 2021, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home Elwood Chapel. Funeral service celebrating David's life will be at 11:00 am Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Dunnichay Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow in Phlox Cemetery with military honors conducted by the US Army and the Elwood VFW Honor Guard.
