Ernest Roy Mullens , age 78, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Community Hospital in Anderson following extended health issues. He was born in Winchester on November 18, 1942, to the late English and Elizabeth (Wickett) Mullens. On May 19, 1962 he married Edith (McElhany) Mullens and they shared 55 years of marriage together before her death in 2017.
Ernest retired from the Delco Remy division of General Motors where he was a pipe-fitter. He was a member and Past Grand Master of the Frankton Masonic Lodge. Ernie and Edith were lifetime members of the Goldwing Riders Association of Anderson . Ernest was an avid bowler and through the years belonged to several bowling leagues at Wells Lanes in Elwood. He enjoyed reading, traveling and camping, motorcycle riding, and watching college basketball. He was a loving father and devoted grandfather and will be deeply missed.
Ernest is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou (Sam) Taylor and Pamela (Charles) Idlewine; grandchildren, Morgan Taylor, Shelby Idlewine, and James (Jillian) Taylor and expected great granddaughter, "Bean" Taylor; siblings, Edward (Barb) Mullens, Everett (Mila) Mullens, Wayne (Melinda) Mullens, and Donna (Stan) Mullens; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Along with his parents and wife, Ernest was preceded in death by his grandson, Charles Roy Idlewine; sister, Connie Davis, and his best friend, Roger Purciful.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 9 pm on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson St. Elwood, IN 46036. The visitation will include a Masonic Memorial service at 7:00 pm. A funeral service to honor Ernest's life will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Jim Ballenger. Burial will follow in K. of P.- I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Frankton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson Christian Center or Second Harvest Food Bank.
