Evelyn Ruth (Canfield) Rigsby, 100, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Elwood Health and Living following a long, well-lived life. She was born on March 20, 1922, in Frankton, IN, the daughter of William Roy and Ina Mae (Perlee) Canfield.
Evelyn was a 1940 graduate of Frankton High School. On June 30, 1944, she marriedCanby “Bud” Rigsby, and they shared over 63 years of marriage until his passing onApril 19. 2008. Evelyn was a homemaker most of her life. She was passionate about supporting her community, especially through her 75-year membership of the Order of the Eastern Star, as a member of the Madison County Home Extension Club for 65 years, and as a lifetime member of the Frankton United Methodist Church. She was also an avid Pacers fan, and she enjoyed telling “Allusion” stories. She was a very special mother to her beloved children, and she will be remembered as an excellent cook.
Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Ella Kay Bardonner of Frankton, and Eloise (Kerry) Hobbs of Elwood; six grandchildren, Scott (Tracy) Bardonner, Angie Dunn, Monette (Todd) Cochran, Matt (Michelle) Hobbs, Joy (Mark) Hobson, and Chris (Pam) Bardonner; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; a brother, Virgil (Kay) Canfield; and several special nieces and nephews who fondly called her Aunt Rig. Along with her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a brother Glenn Canfield, son-in-law Larry Bardonner, and great-grandson Quentin Dunn.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 25, 2022, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Harper and Dunnichay Funeral Home at 305 East Sigler Street, Frankton, IN. An Order of the Eastern Star service will begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home followed by a funeral service to honor Evelyn’s life with Pastor Bob Pruesz officiating. Burial will follow at K of P I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Frankton.
Memorial contributions in Evelyn’s memory are suggested to Frankton United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army through the funeral home.
