Obituary

George R. Leisure, age 86, of Alexandria, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield following recent health issues.  He was born in Elwood on September 3, 1935, the son of the late George Truman and Mary Jane (McPhearson) Leisure.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.   He was first married to Josephine (Mussial) Leisure, and together they raised four children.   While raising his children, George was very active in his kids’ youth sports in Elwood.   He is remembered by many of his baseball players as one of the best coaches who helped them learn and love the game.

In his spare time, George pursued and enjoyed several hobbies and interests during his long life.   Many of these passions included playing golf, cards (especially Euchre), hunting, fishing with his grandchildren, woodworking, being outdoors, mushroom hunting, playing the organ, dancing, and he was an overall avid sports fan.   George was a member of Yule Golf Club in Alexandria, where he could be found every morning when it wasn't raining playing in the morning "choose up.”  He enjoyed going line and square dancing, and could often be found on the dance floor during the Elwood Concerts in the Park.   George was a member of the V.F.W. and the Eagles Lodge in Alexandria.

George is survived by his three loving children, Phil (wife Lynn) Leisure of New Jersey, Penny (husband Joe) Cannon of Pendleton, and Debi (husband Phil) Fravola of Florida; grandchildren, Cody (wife Lindsey) Davis, Erin (husband Rob) Novielli, Jennifer (fiance Matt Biondi) Leisure, Drew Leisure, J.P. (wife Laura) Cannon, Jadrea (husband Craig) Pardieck, Jordan (wife Kelly) Cannon, Jodi (fiance Will Bain) Young, Jesse Hudson, and Janessa (husband Rudy) Ramirez; great-grandchildren, Emberlin, Noah, Noelle, Nicholas, Liam, Quinn, Hayden, Holden, Hudsen, Hesten, Lena, Noah, Nathan, Caleb, Bentley, Jayce, Kynleigh Mae, and A.J.; brother, Bob (wife Sylvia) Leisure; three sisters, Mary Lewis, Sue (husband Gary) Knotts, and Ardeana (fiance Danny Vinson) Smith; step-son and caregiver, Billy Joe Jones; former spouse, Verda Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
