Obituary

George A. "Pete" Mason, age 84, of Davenport, Florida, and formerly of Elwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness. Pete was born in Elwood, Indiana, on February 19, 1938, to the late William and Sybil (Dutton) Mason.


On May 31, 1969, he married Karen (Gregory) Mason, and they shared 53 years of loving marriage together. Pete proudly served his country in Germany while in the National Guard and the US Army. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by Excello Corp. in Elwood, before transferring to Orlando, Florida, where he retired after 37 years as the Plant Manager for Textron. In addition, Pete also worked as a business consultant in Penang, Malaysia,over a 6-month period. He was a previous member of the Elwood Elks, Elwood Country Club and served as a past president of Elwood Kiwanis Club. Being a man of God, Pete was also a proud member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Elwood and later the East Main Street Christian Church. 

Pete continued supporting others and his community while in Florida as a Give Kids the World Volunteer & Train Engineer in Orlando, Road Ranger Volunteer in Davenport, and offering his time to support the local Sheriff's Department, Citizens on Patrol (CAP), and delivered for Meals on Wheels. He was humble and kind and known for adopting families to help during the holidays and other times of need. Pete earned his Black Belt in Karate and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. With a passion for traveling, cruising, and camping, he was able to visit all 50 states and other countries. He also enjoyed deep sea-fishing while on his boat, which was respectively named, "Pete's Pride".  Above all else, Pete was a genuine family-oriented man who dearly loved spending time with his family.  He made a positive difference in many lives and was admired by all who knew him. Pete will always be remembered and deeply missed.

Pete is survived by his loving wife, Karen Mason; 3 daughters, Kathy (Joe) Miller, Diana (Alan) Seastrand and Debbie (Craig) Rose; 2 sons, Doug (Jenny) Mason and Greg Bunch; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Mason/Blake, Corie Lovell, Heather Lovell, Erica Mason/Vinson, Tanner Mason, Brandon Seastrand, Brooklyn Seastrand/Kneip, Brittany Seastrand/Hasler, Craig Rose, Nikki Rose, Taylor Rose and Lacie Rose; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents Pete was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy (Charlie) Lovell, 3 brothers, Richard, William and Charles Mason; 2 sisters, Mary Flynn and Dorothy Tincher. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana. Funeral service celebrating Pete's life will be at 11:00 am Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Dunnichay Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer Association and/or the Elwood Animal Shelter.
