Karl Eugene Gregg, 64, Elwood- After valiantly fighting a battle with leukemia, he peacefully passed away March 24, 2020 in his home holding his daughters hand.
Karl was the son of Eugene Karl Gregg and Valara June Walters and was born on June 20, 1955 in Anderson, Indiana. He graduated in 1974 from the Unites States Army National Guard. He married Terrie Smith at the Orestes Baptist Church on Nov. 29, 1974. Karl worked tirelessly to provide for his family. After 36 years of employment, Karl retired from the Elwood Community School Corporation as the maintenance director. He served his country for over 30 years until his retirement from the National Guard in 2005. What started out as a temporary part-time job to help pay for his daughter’s band and cheerleading activities turned into over 20 years at the Sheraton Hotel in Indianapolis. From 1985 till 2000, he spent most weekends enjoying his role as a DJ for a weddings and parties. He attended the Orestes Christian Church and was a member of the Orestes Knights of Pythias.
During “retirement”, Karl loved driving the school bus to events and being a substitute driver for daily school routes. He enjoyed riding his Harley with friends and taking it on long trips, collecting coins and guns, eating at the Pub with his friends, hunting, and taking care of his pool and lawn. He always seemed to be busy doing something, whether tinkering in the garage or renovating his house. He was wise, intelligent, dedicated, courageous, and ingenuitive; he could build or fix anything. Karl had a loving and caring heart, ornery sense of humor, and infectious laugh. He was dedicated to a fault; he spent his life helping others in any way he could. He always worried more about others than himself. He would drop everything to help someone in need. He sacrificed much for his family, doing all that he could to create a good life for his daughter and give her every opportunity that he could. More than anything, he loved his family. He hated to leave his loved ones behind, but his body and spirit were tired. He will be dearly missed.
Karl was preceded in death by his wife, Terrie; father, Eugene Gregg; mother, June Walters; mother-in-law, Twila Eloise Smith; best friend, Jack Miller; and his cherished furbabies Jackie Joe, Miss Jillian, Joby Dell, Jasper, Jada Tada, Jetto Farto, and JoJoBear.
