Larry Lee Gibson Sr. “Hoot,” age 74, took the hand of Jesus and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on October 18, 2021 at Community Hospital in Anderson, after a long, hard and brave fight with multiple extended illnesses. Larry was born in Barbourville, Kentucky on May 6, 1947 to the late John Homer Gibson and Carmen Louis (McCoy) Gibson.
Larry married the love of his life, Cheryl (Stafford) Gibson, on January 15, 1967 and they shared 54 happy years raising their three boys Larry Lee, Bradley Scott, and Chad Dean and all of their grandchildren together.
Larry graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School. He retired from the Delco Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson. He worked at Plant 11 as a supervisor and called himself a "Remy-Rat." He could be found getting himself in trouble because anyone that knew Larry, knew it had to be Larry’s way. Once he rode a horse to work and tied it to an air conditioning unit. Larry was an avid racing fan and could be found racing in his younger days at Speed Creek Raceway in Lapel. Later, He sold parts to keep him and his team on the track. Larry was very social and was a member of several service and community clubs. Larry could often be found sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in his hand or in a new vehicle where he would have to ask for Cheryl's forgiveness afterwards.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Cheryl Gibson; brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Gibson; sister, Bonnie (Gibson) Werline; 3 sons, Larry Lee (wife Julie) Gibson, Jr., Bradley Scott (wife Alisa) Gibson, Chad Dean (wife Shannon) Gibson; grandchildren, Christopher (wife Kylee)Phenis, Brittany Gibson, Jacob Gibson, Caleb Gibson, Mallory (husband Andrew) Gibson-Marsh, Emily Gibson, Abigail Gibson, Claire Gibson, and Chloe Gibson; great-grandchildren, Cohen Phenis, Wesley Phenis, Desmond Clark, Damian Clark, Abram Andrew, Elliott Marsh, and Luca Marsh; and many other special friends and family members.
