Lon Charles Clayton, age 78, of Elwood passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 following multiple health issues. Lon was born in Indianapolis on November 8, 1942, he was the son of the late Leon Harvey Clayton and Mabel (Beecham) Sater.
Lon proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On August 3, 1985 he married Betty (Hisle) Farr-Clayton and they shared over 36 years of marriage together. Lon retired from Delco Remy in 1999 after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter E in Anderson. Lon enjoyed golfing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, watching sports, NASCAR racing, and more than anything, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events.
Lon is survived by his wife, Betty "Farr" Clayton; father, Jack Sater; brother, Robert (Vicki) Clayton; sisters, SueAnn (Terry) Vermillion and Barbara (Dan) Neff; brother, Patrick (Wanda) Clayton; daughter, Sheri (Rick) Painter; sons, Dan (Missy Wilson) Clayton, Brad (Jenny) Clayton, Russ (Kim) Farr, and Ray (Amy Arbogast) Farr; 13 grandchildren, Bailey, Blake, Levi, Cole, Gavin, Brooke, Holli, Brandi, Ashley, Jenni, Ethan, EJ and Emma; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents Lon was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Clayton.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 13, 2021 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Dunnichay Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor and celebrate Lon's life will be Monday, September 13, 2021 at 1:00pm at Dunnichay Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
