Mabel E. Burton, age 89, of Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at her daughter's residence in Elwood following extended health issues.
She was born in Alexandria on July 19, 1930, to the late Clifford Semon and Juanita (Custer) Smith.
On February 7, 1948 she married William "Bill" Burton and he passed away on August 5, 1983. Mabel was a homemaker all of her life and always took pride in caring for her family. When she was younger she would garden and canned the food they grew to help care for her growing family. She was a wonderful mother and she was the neighborhood "mom" to all the kids in the area. Mabel was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, and enjoyed watching western movies and t.v. shows. She was a former long-time member of Zion Chapel Church in Elwood. Mabel loved her cat A.J. and her grand-dog Tiny. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Mabel is survived by children, Billy (Sandy) Burton of TX, Randy (Debbie) Burton of Elwood, Theresa (Jerry) Niccum of Elwood, Deloris Amos of Elwood, Katherine (Don) Wolfe of Marion, Linda Burton of Alexandria; 26 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a half sister Myra Gillespie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Juanita; husband, Bill Burton; sons, Max and Howard "Skip" Burton; daughter, Ruth Walpher; sister Beverly Kessler; and brother, Clifford Semon Jr.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Monday, March 16, 2020 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana with Pastor Jack Bess officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 16, 2020, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana.
