Penny L. Hunnicutt, age 59, of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Community North Hospital surrounded by her loving family following complications from COVID-19. Penny was born in Elwood, IN on August 6, 1962. On April 25, 2017, she married Bill Hunnicutt.
Penny graduated from Elwood Community High School in 1980, where she was very active in the DECA program. As a state officer in DECA she was able to travel the state and visit many different schools. While she was in school, she worked for Klein Shoe store located in downtown Elwood until they closed. She worked briefly for Friendly's Restaurant before going to Marsh grocery which eventually became Needler's Grocery. She enjoyed the simple things in life, particularly caring and doing for others was what brought much joy and happiness to Penny. She loved sunflowers, reality Tv shows, candles, 5 Guys hamburgers, and shopping with her sister Cindy. Most of all, she loved everyone in her life, her family, her husband, her pet dog and cat, and especially all her friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Penny is survived by her loving husband, Bill Hunnicutt; her parents, Sue (David) Hoffer; son, Brad Acres; siblings, Cindy (John) Bucci, Mark (Beckie) Crim and Mike Crim; step-son, Augustus Hunnicutt; step-brother, Dean Hoffer; step-sister, Gina Courtney; niece, Amy (K.W. Scott) Bucci; nephew, Ray (Mariah) Crim; aunt, Judy Pennington; nephew, Ross (Julie) Bucci; sister-in-law, Diana (Bill) Lane; niece, Jean Lane; nephew, Brian (Tammy) Lane; special niece, Cassidy Courtney; special friend, Carol Puterbaugh; and her dog, Piper Rose and her cat, Odie.
Visitation will be Monday, November 15, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood Chapel. Funeral service celebrating Penny's life will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Dunnichay Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Becker officiating. Dress attire be casual because that's what Penny would want. Burial will follow the funeral service.
