Vera Maxine (Starr) Swart, age 102, of Frankton, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Community Hospital. She was one of nine children born in Lafayette Township, Anderson, on February 22, 1919. Vera was the daughter of Charles and Ethel Blanche (Groover) Starr. On December 23, 1945, she married Charles C. Swart and they shared 36 years of marriage together before he passed away on November 24, 1981.
Vera was a 1937 graduate of Anderson High School. She was employed at Guide Lamp GM of Anderson and retired after 33 years of service. She was a member of the United Auto Workers Union #663 and the Frankton Christian Church. Vera was a self-taught pianist and enjoyed playing for her church and for her friends who came to visit her in her home. She enjoyed going on camping trips and staying in a tent even at the age of 90 plus years. Vera experienced many great vacations and deeply loved her family and spending time with them. Vera was a life-long resident of Frankton before moving to her daughter’s home in Anderson in 2018.
Vera is survived by two daughters, Marcia Spradlin of Anderson and Melinda Murphy of Alpine, TN; grandson, Mark Murphy; great-grandchildren, Cory & Melissa Spradlin; several nieces and nephews; her grand-cat, Savannah.
Along with her parents and husband, Vera was preceded in death by her grandson, Tod Spradlin; special sister, Betty Hull; nieces, nephews; and her cats, Sheba and Skylar.
Vera's wishes were to have a graveside service at 2:00 pm Friday, July 23, 2021, at the K of P & I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Frankton with Russell Brashear officiating.
