William "Martie" Guffey, age 80, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
Martie was born in Albany, KY on July 8, 1939. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
On April 21, 1960, he married the love of his life Shelby (Garrett) Guffey. Martie retired from the Grant County Sheriff's Department after several years of service. He was a faithful member of the Orestes Christian Church. Martie enjoyed gardening, rebuilding tractors and he was an excellent gunsmith and sharp shooter. Martie loved his family and he will be greatly missed by all.
Martie is survived by his wife, Shelby Guffey of Alexandria, two sons, Billy (Donna) Guffey and Frosty Guffey, two daughters, Nova Guffey and Amy Ward, grandchildren; Brandi Guffey, Steven Guffey, Coty Ward, Alexandra Ward, Brock Guffey, Landen Guffey and Lynette Guffey, great grandchildren; Will Mooreman, Leigha Mooreman, Marian Lewis, Evya Guffey and Aurora Guffey, two sisters, Brenda Murray and Sylvia Dowden, several nieces & nephews.
Martie was preceded in death by his mother, Alzina Guffey and a son, David Guffey.
Out of respect for personal and public safety. Private services will be held for the immediate family on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home with Pastor Don Smothers officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Cemetery in Summitville with full military honors.
A celebration of life service will scheduled at a later date.
